Hattiesburg Celebrates "DAY IN THE PARK" HATTIESBURG, MS -- On Saturday, July 10th, Councilman Dave Ware will host “Day in the Park”. To coincide with community wide efforts to beautify our city, neighborhoods are organizing a “clean up” event that morning. “Our neighborhood was discussing having a day of community service, and we decided that teaming up with Dave on this project was a great opportunity. Meeting up at the Park after to celebrate our effort would make for a good day,” says Historic Neighborhood Association president, Andrea Saffle. more... |

30, 2008Reaching out to the homeless For too long, the homeless, City Councilman Dave Ware believes, have been invisible in Hattiesburg. Whether they live in their cars, in the woods or under bridges, or make their way into shelters at night, they're below the radar of much of society. Ware, with other homeless advocates, is determined to change that. "We want to provide help to everyone we can," Ware said. To that end, Ware set up the Pine Belt Coalition on Homelessness and believes that by joining forces with local homeless outreach groups the city will be able to address an underlying problem more aggressively. But Ware's efforts aren't without challenges. more... |

29, 2008Councilman hosts 'Day in the Park' There's nothing like pushing all your worries to the side, packing up the family and partaking in a good, old-fashioned day in the park. Families
in Hattiesburg were given that opportunity when Ward 4 Councilman
Dave Ware set aside his council hat, for a moment, to host "A
Day in the Park" at Kamper Park and Hattiesburg Zoo on
Saturday. For three hours families invaded one of the city's jewels to enjoy some carefree frolicking, juicy watermelons and a hearty buffet of food. "This is a concept that I came up with after serving on the City Council for the last couple of years," Ware said. "I thought it would be nice to have a day where we weren't concentrating on our problems. We're concentrating on our positive aspects and the things that make Hattiesburg special." more... |

5, 2008Mayor's Progress Hattiesburg plan gets majority vote The third time was definitely the charm for Mayor Johnny DuPree's Progress Hattiesburg tax plan. The plan jumped its first hurdle by gaining a majority vote in favor of the tax increase from City Council on Tuesday night. The council's 4-1 vote advances the plan to Jackson where it must gain approval from both the state Legislature and Gov. Haley Barbour before it returns to Hattiesburg for citizen approval. more... |
